TRACK OF THE DAY: SPRING KING – ‘CITY’ – Listen

TRACK OF THE DAY: SPRING KING - 'CITY' - Listen

With spring giving way to summer at long last, raucous Manchester four-piece Spring King have welcomed the season in style, gaining the first ever play on Zane Lowe’s long-awaited Apple Music / Beats1 worldwide radio show with their latest single ‘City’.

Launched last night, Zane introduced the track by stating, “We’ve spent the last three months building this radio station and now we can build no more – we must launch. We’ve had all sorts of ideas about the first song; things that make statements, things with fanfare. But ultimately, there’s been one song that all of us keep coming back to. We’ve tested sound to it, I’ve referred to it lyrically when I’ve needed a boost, because it’s been stressful at times, and exciting and challenging. We’ve even cut demos to it to convince people to continue to support this radio station. This band put this EP out a few months ago with little or no fanfare outside of core fans. But they’re building. That’s exactly the kind of story and the kind of record we need to kick this whole thing off with, cause man, it’s not about fanfare – there’s fireworks and a hangover the next day – it’s about quality and consistency. We’re Beats1, we’re worldwide, and from now on we’re always on.”

The track’s play made waves across the globe, and Beats1’s launch with an unsigned band made headlines. Speaking on the surprise, Spring King’s primary songwriter and singer/drummer Tarek Musa says, ”Genuinely blown away that Zane Lowe, someone I’d listen to growing up, decided to play Spring King as the opener to Beats1 Radio. Never expected to be part of something so big by doing what we love. If DJs like Zane Lowe continue to support small, unsigned bands like us, that can only be a good thing for musicians and artists across the world. So thanks Zane! And everyone who’s supported us along the way. We can’t wait to share our new music with you soon.”
