“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.” This is a statement from the band on their website after 15 years and much speculation about a possible reunion. Oasis is hitting the road again; the comeback is nigh.
Oasis was formed in Manchester in 1991. The original band mates were the Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, the lead vocalist/lead guitarist and lead vocalist too respectively. Bonehead an alias for Paul Arthurs, a strings legend, bassist Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan and drummer Tony McCaroll. The band was a top-notch rock ‘n roll British rock group. Their 90s jams were the highlight of the era.
On August 28, 2009, the band officially split following an alleged argument backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. Before then, there have been altercations, bad blood between Noel and Liam, a series of cancelled shows, arrests, and public insults against each other.
Also, McCaroll, Bonehead, and McGuigan quit the band and were replaced by Alan White in 1995 and Gem Archer and Andy Bell in 1999, respectively. All these factors culminated in stretching the strain in their relationships. Liam formed a separate band, Beady Eye, with the remaining bandmates, while Noel formed an individual band, Noel’s High Flying Birds.
Beady Eye later disbanded in 2014.
Following the announcement of their reunion tour, they teased fans with the release of a Deluxe edition of their last album, Definitely Maybe, to celebrate its 30th Anniversary. This and the announcement shot most of their singles and albums to the top of the music charts. Maybe was released on August 29, 1994, and sold 8.5 million copies worldwide. It was no. 1 on the UK Charts and certified Platinum in the US.
The album was powered by lead singles like “Supersonic”, “Shake Maker”, and “Live Forever”. “Live Forever” charted at no. 8, while “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and ” Wonderwall” peaked at number 9 and 11 respectively. The glory days of the band were being relieved.
There are speculations as to why the band is getting back together, whether it’s because Noel lost about £20 million after his divorce or that the brothers have finally called it quits on their strife with each other. Either way, fans are excited to hear about the tour.
THE REUNION TOUR
“This is it, it is happening” — Oasis posted on their Instagram three days after announcing dates for their reunion tour. On August 27, 2024, the British Rock group announced their reunion tour, the Oasis Live ’25 Reunion Tour —a long-anticipated tour after 15 years of being apart and going solo. Liam and Noel announced on the band’s website.
Fans will be intrigued to see how the brother’s relationship will play out. The tour does not mention the inclusion of the McGuigan, Bonehead and Tony McCaroll. Fans are hopeful that they will see the original Rock band perform together.
Initially, 17 dates were announced, including five dates at Wembley Stadium and Heaton in Manchester across five cities in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Due to tickets being in popular demand, three more dates were added to the tour on 29 August 2024, with two at Wembley. Oasis will kick off their comeback tour at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, before heading to perform at the Gallagher’s hometown, Manchester in England at Heaton Park.
They will also touchdown at Wembley Stadium in London, Edinburgh’s Murray Field stadium and the Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The tour will come to an end at Wembley Stadium on September 28, 2025.
There have been rumours swirling that the band will headline Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage as part of their return. Fans would be pleased to get a glimpse of Oasis after a decade and five years. It would be a third time, having been previously done so in 1995 and 2004.
But the band, in a statement on X explicitly said that Oasis will not be playing in Glastonbury 2025 and that the only way to see the band perform live will be at their UK, Ireland and Scotland treks.
By and large, Oasis’ 25 will be a nostalgic ride for the Britpop band after 15 years of barbs and silence. Also, the tour could be an opportunity for the band to redeem themselves in the eyes of their fans after their acrimonious split in 2009. The band has promised to put on an unforgettable show for their fans and reclaim their position as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
