Jungle, the electronic duo who clinched the 2024 BRIT Awards’ Group of the Year title, delivered a remarkable performance at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. Originally slated as the headlining act for The Centenary Square Summer Series in the heart of Birmingham, the event faced an unexpected cancellation. However, Jungle’s performance was swiftly relocated to the arena, and XS NOIZE was there to capture the magic.

The evening started with English singer Ella More, who took the stage at 19:30, just as the crowd began filling the dance floor. Her soulful performance set the tone for what was to come. Following her, American singer and dancer METTE electrified the audience with her dynamic presence, flanked by two high-energy dancers. Their vibrant performance radiated positivity, instantly amplifying the atmosphere in the venue.

Jungle took the stage at 21:30, bathed in red lighting with thick clouds of smoke billowing from machines on either side. As their silhouettes emerged against the backdrop of vivid visuals, the word “JUNGLE” lit up in neon at the top of the stage, signalling the start of an unforgettable show. Kicking off with “Busy Earnin’,” a track from their debut self-titled album, it was clear that the Birmingham crowd adored them. The audience responded with thunderous cheers, enthusiastic dance moves, and hands waving in the air, fully immersed in the band’s intoxicating beats.

The energy in the arena only intensified as the band seamlessly transitioned into the upbeat tracks “Candle Flame” and “Dominoes” from their recent hit album Volcano. Throughout the performance, Jungle showcased their extraordinary musical talent, with drummers, percussionists, and backup singers joining the main duo—Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland—on stage to create an immersive musical experience. The crowd reached a fever pitch during their hit “Back on 74,” a song that has become a viral sensation, thanks partly to its inspiring music video featuring talented dancers. This track, in particular, highlighted Jungle’s skyrocketing popularity, with the audience singing along and cheering wildly.

During “Coming Back,” large inflatable beach balls were released into the crowd, adding an element of playful fun to the night. The warm orange lighting and haze of smoke combined to evoke the feel of a summer beach party in sunny California, further enhancing the immersive experience.

The show concluded on a high note with “Keep Moving” performed as an encore. The band took a collective bow to roaring applause and whistles from the audience. Despite the logistical challenges threatening the show’s original plan, Jungle proved their unwavering commitment to their craft. Their performance at the Utilita Arena was a testament to their ability to create magic, regardless of the venue, turning what could have been a setback into a triumphant celebration of their musical prowess.
