John Power first came to prominence as the bassist for The La’s and performed on their critically adored self-titled debut album. He subsequently switched to vocals and guitar as he formed Cast, who went on to become one of the biggest bands of the Britpop era. Their rich catalogue of timeless songs – including ‘Walkway’, ‘Alright’, ‘Fine Time’ and ‘Flying’ – resulted in seven Top 10 hits and another three which reached the Top 20, while their first three albums all fired into the Top 10, earning two Platinum and one Silver certification.
After Cast split following the release of their fourth album, John Power focused on a solo career which incorporated raw Americana and blues elements into ‘Happening For Love’ (2003), ‘Willow She Weeps’ (2006) and ‘Stormbreaker’ (2008). Cast reformed in 2010 for live shows and have since released two further albums, the most recent of which, ‘Kicking Up Dust’, was described by Allmusic as a “stronger album than not only its predecessor but such ’90s efforts as Mother Nature Calls and Magic Hour, as well.”
Having played summer shows that include a Greatest Hits homecoming set in Liverpool and a large outdoor show as special guests to Richard Ashcroft, Cast’s first new album since 2017 is now nearing completion and will be released early next year.
