New York indie juggernauts We Are Scientists have revealed their brand new single 'Less From You' - An indie pop dancefloor filler, 'Less From You' is another taste of the pair's recently announced eighth studio album 'Lobes' (due for release on 20th January 2023 via 100% Records). Described by the band as "one of the most hopeful and exuberant songs on 'Lobes'," the track was written immediately after they finished post-production on their last record 'Huffy', which almost certainly lends itself to the exuberance and vigour seeping from the single.
Elaborating on the new single, singer Keith Murray explains, "There was definitely a period in my life when I thought being jaded was cool — that familiar, idiotic teenage phase that also accepted clove cigarettes and the music of Marilyn Manson. I’ve had my pessimism proven wrong so many times in my life, though, about so many things - friendship, love, an unexpectedly great Mai Tai in the basement of a British hotel - that it’s been impossible to really maintain that full-throttle cynical outlook into adulthood. Sure, whittling down my pessimism has meant that I don’t get to enjoy the peculiar pleasure of having my own rotten expectations subverted quite as often, but 'Less From You' celebrates the greater delight of having my already-high hopes exceeded."
While bassist Chris Cain adds, “I really wanted the bass part of this song to be performed on our Moog Voyager — a nice thick synth bass felt like a great way to add some sleaze to the party. In the end, a blend of Moog and bass guitar sounded best, which I’m worried means I’ll have to actually play this bass part at live shows instead of taking a dance break.”

'Less From You' is the second single to be revealed from the aforementioned record 'Lobes', which is the band’s second self-produced outing.
We Are Scientists will also be heading out on the road, completing an extensive tour of the UK and Europe in support of the record throughout February, March and April 2023. Recently announced dates for the 'Show Lobes' tour include a London headline show at the recently relaunched KOKO in Camden on 3rd March.
The upcoming new album follows on from the weighty indie rock masterpiece HUFFY in 2021, and whilst the origins of songs written for 'Lobes' began around the same time, the impression so far suggests they grew into an entirely different musical universe. The album's lead single 'Operator Error' is a promising first taste of the fresh direction expected on 'Lobes' - listen here.
'Lobes' by We Are Scientists is due out on 20th January 2023 via 100% Records.
