Today, Hifi Sean and David McAlmont are pleased to unveil their newest single, “SUN COME UP.” Available now on most streaming platforms, the track is a summery jam from the forthcoming LP, Daylight.

Released via Plastique Recordings, Hifi Sean and David McAlmont welcome us into their unique sonic orbit. Allowing the listener an immersive experience, the track guides its audience through the stages of a sunrise with shades of yellow, orange, and red. A feel-good anthem, the new track’s upbeat synths and compact dance-heavy drumbeat create a unique landscape of electronic darkwave.

Led by McAlmont’s soul-lifting vocals, “SUN COME UP” demonstrates a culmination of both Hifi Sean and David McAlmont’s true talents as queer musicians. Featuring an organic blend of synths, funky bass lines, and powerful grooves, the new track gives off retro vibes, although its roots point back to the disco-tinged dance floors of the 1970s.

In conjunction with the new single, an alluring video celebrating the change of seasons has been released. Directed, shot, and edited by ARBER, the video taps into the track’s mystical qualities by featuring warped visuals and eccentric costumes.

With an impressive roster of past collaborations such as Yoko Ono, Crystal Waters, and Bootsy Collins, UK’s own HiFi Sean teams up with producer David McAlmont to create a unique palette of alternative electronica. Together, they’ve released a debut album and multiple exciting singles under the sobriquet Hifi Sean and David Mcalmont.

Uniting their diverse musical experiences, such as contributing to 90’s alt-rock unit The Soup Dragons (HiFi Sean) and frequent collaborator of Bernard Butler (David McAlmont), the two are gearing up for the release of their sophomore album Daylight on August 16, 2024. Following their acclaimed 2023 debut, Happy Ending, the exhilarating suite of twelve songs on Daylight celebrates, expresses, and explores the colours of summer. Marking the first of two albums from the duo in 2024 with its nocturnal sister album, Twilight, which will be released on the first day of Winter. Daylight represents a significant moment in Hifi Sean and David McAlmont’s partnership. It was produced in a remarkable burst of collaborative energy, with both composers channelling and sharing the momentum.
