Kasabian have shared their new single “SUPERPOWERS,” the third track to be taken from their forthcoming ninth studio album, Act III, out September 4.

The new single follows the announcement of Act III and the band’s raucous performance on Saturday Night Live in April.

“SUPERPOWERS” is a laidback, synth-driven track with a G-Funk flavour, smooth production and a big pop chorus.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Serge said: “I remember hearing Doggystyle by Snoop in my mate’s XR2, one of those tracks that makes you go ‘what?’ because you’ve never heard anything quite like it. When we recorded ‘SUPERPOWERS’ it was the first time I really felt like the sound that I could hear in my head was what came out of the speakers.”

For the release, Serge also turned the track’s lyrics into a script and filmed a series of audition tapes with actor Stephen Graham.

He said: “Audition tapes have always fascinated me. There’s something incredible about seeing a performance in its rawest form. I wanted to bring that feeling to life by turning the song’s lyrics into a script and presenting it as an audition tape. Getting to work with Stephen Graham, one of Britain’s greatest actors, was a true honour.”

Act III was recorded at The Sergery and Club Ralph and produced by Serge and Mark Ralph. The album features 10 tracks and three interludes, with the band describing it as guitar-driven, psyche-infused pop that looks forward while drawing on the raw energy of Kasabian’s early days.

The album arrives after Kasabian’s last seven studio albums all went straight to Number 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart.

Kasabian will headline a sold-out show at London’s Finsbury Park on July 4, with support from Louis Dunford, Razorlight, The K’s, Miles Kane and SOFY. The band will also play a run of UK and European festival dates this summer, including Boardmasters, Leeds Festival, Victorious Festival and Mad Cool.
