TRACK PREMIERE: RUBY J – Home

RUBY J

Hailing from the mighty Midlands UK, at 18, indie-soul Singer/Songwriter and recording artist RUBY J fuses multiple genres with her unique style. In 2020, Paloma Faith said, “Ruby J is that unique voice”.

2022 saw Ruby J make her major UK Festival debut at ‘The Isle Of Wight Festival’ and Manchester’s biggest multi-venue indoor Festival ‘Neighbourhood’. In addition to this, she has secured support slots with Becky Hill, Scouting for Girls, The K’s, and Red Rum Club and has shared the stage with Liverpudlian folk-rock legend Jamie Webster.

Ruby’s unique tone has led to early bold comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Macy Gray & Tina Turner, with her influences ranging from Billie Holiday to Alex Turner and Paolo Nutini.

Inspired to pick up a guitar at age 13 by Tash Sultana and Arctic Monkeys, now 18-year-old Ruby J has honed her live performance, and her dynamic stage presence time and time again encapsulates and captivates audiences.

Home is a song inspired by Motown’s bouncy rhythms & soulful vocals. Written whilst listening to artists like Lulu and influenced by modern artists like Plan B and his record “The Defamation of Strickland Banks”, “Home” was born.

A song performed during a five-date tour with The Lathums and across the UK during festival season, crowds always seemed to burst into dance and joy when ‘home’ closed the end of Ruby’s set.

Filled with big horn sections and uplifting dance-worthy riffs, ‘Home’ is a song that best represents Ruby J’s current musical direction and sound.
