TRACK PREMIERE: RUBY J - Backtrack

Hailing from the mighty Midlands UK, at the age of 18, indie-soul Singer/Songwriter and Recording Artist RUBY J fuses multiple genres with her own unique style. In 2020, Paloma Faith said, “Ruby J is that unique voice”.

2022 saw Ruby J make her major UK Festival debut at ‘The Isle Of Wight Festival’ and Manchester’s biggest multi-venue indoor Festival ‘Neighbourhood’. In addition to this, she has secured support slots with Becky Hill, Scouting for Girls, The K’s, and Red Rum Club and has shared the stage with Liverpudlian folk-rock legend Jamie Webster.

Ruby’s unique tone has led to early bold comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Macy Gray & Tina Turner, with her influences ranging from Billie Holiday to Alex Turner and Paolo Nutini.

Inspired to pick up a guitar at age 13 by the likes of Tash Sultana and Arctic Monkeys, now 18-year-old Ruby J has honed her live performance, and her dynamic stage presence time and time again encapsulates and captivates audiences.

‘Backtrack’ is a song that echoes the sounds of 70s classic soul records. A dynamic voice accompanied by a retro soul-sounding brass section and beat that is sure to keep the listener engaged and entertained.

The new single ‘Backtrack’ follows the recently released track ‘Home’ both featuring on the debut EP dropping December 15th. Ruby manages to capture the energy from live performances in all her newest material. The songs have a strong vintage tone, suggesting Ruby J is delving further back in time to the age of Motown for inspiration.

Looking out on the horizon of 2023 for Ruby J, the future is very bright; she and her full 6-piece band are headed out on tour with popular Indie legends The Lathums for a string of dates on their UK number 1 album tour, including The Roundhouse London. Her calendar has filled up fast with festivals, such as Y Not, Secret Garden, 110 Above, Blackdeer Festival & many more!

After playing Cafe Nero’s stage, Ruby J’s music has been added to daily playlists in more than 1,000 coffee houses in 11 countries, including the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Cyprus, Croatia, Turkey, UAE, Oman & the United States.

Ruby recently just signed with Los Angeles and UK-based Independent label Lemon Sun Records (The Orchard / Sony). She’s been in the studio recording and putting the finishing touches on her brand new debut EP, which will be released around Winter and will be distributed by The Orchard / Symphonic Music. Along with some high-profile musical and songwriting collaborations on the books, it’s shaping up to be a massive and packed year for Ruby J and the band.
