TRACK PREMIERE: Laura Oakes - ‘Welcome to the Family’

Staying true to yourself has always been at the key of Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Laura Oakes’ journey. Growing up in a household of music fanatics, having conversations in three-part harmony was often considered the norm. It’s only natural then, that she aspired to visit the music city of Nashville and on her 18th birthday, her family took a trip that would change everything.

Since seeing her hero Carrie Underwood in Nashville, Laura hasn’t looked back. Over the years she’s immersed herself in the Nashville songwriter scene, frequently working with some of the best in the city. Her songwriting and performing ability has led her to share the stage with The Shires, Ward Thomas, and Sarah Darling. As well as touring with Brit Award Winner Tom Walker on his most recent UK Tour. She’s also racked up two British Country Music Awards, support from PRS For Music via their ‘Open Fund’ and a confirmed launch in Apple’s Flagship Store in London

Returning from a busy summer touring schedule, Laura is finishing the year with the infectious and beautifully constructed ‘Welcome to the Family’. It’s a tongue-in-cheek piece of country-pop with plenty of banjo-influence. Laura’s vocal takes centre-stage in a track rich with authentic, country instrumentation. On the new track she states:

You can choose everything in life but your family and this song is a manual for surviving that first meeting with the in-laws. Nothing says commitment like letting someone see the weird and wonderful universe that is your crazy, strange, loyal and loving, while still entirely dysfunctional family.”
