New York-based indie-folk/indie-pop singer-songwriter Brother Valiant, aka Alex Amsterdam, introduces his brand-new single “Wander.”
Following on the heels of his previous single, “Lady Daisy,” according to Brother Valiant, “Wander” is about the “misadventures that emotional extremes take you on.”
He goes on to add, “Writing as brutally honest as I can helps me make sense of moments lived, and how to grow from them. It can be very cathartic. That was certainly the case with this song.”
Alex Amsterdam created Brother Valiant in 2013 as he and his friends recorded demos in a basement in New Jersey. Initially, like Paul Simon and Conor Oberst, Brother Valiant’s music embraced simple folk songs, followed by taking on a life of its own. Soon Brother Valiant was performing throughout the Tri-State area.
Opening on a lightly strumming acoustic guitar, “Wander” flows into an upbeat, Americana melody tinted with alt-pop aromas. Brother Valiant’s contagious voice, smooth and tasty, reminiscent of Jim Croce crossed with John Denver and Rob Thomas, imbues the lyrics with fearless energy, while radiant, resonant harmonies give the chorus undeniable heft and scope. With “Wander,” Brother Valiant rolls out electrifying sonic textures topped by grand, vibrant vocals.
