Track Of The Day: Prints Jackson (featuring Jim Ward) - Sail on Phaelon

One song every month until the day I die.

This is the simple mission statement from UK alt-indie artist Prints Jackson (Kristian C Williams), a mantra that perfectly encapsulates his ongoing project, which is already earning media attention thanks to the consistent quality of the releases over the past three years; thirty songs to date.

Prints Jackson has written music for games, film and television, as well recording and producing for other artists. The free form feel of this project provides him with the opportunity to invite artists to collaborate as well as allowing Jackson to experiment with sounds and genres. The current single ‘Sail on Phaelon’ sees both these aspects of the project very much in evidence as Jim Ward (At the Drive In, Sparta, Sleepercar) and Gabe Gonzalez (Sleepercar) join Jackson on August’s track.

‘Sail on Phaelon’ is huge on melody with an undeniably anthemic chorus, subverted by left field production to create a track that is immediate in its appeal yet reveals more with every listen.

The cover comes from celebrated Welsh artist Richard J Oliver (No Devotion).

The artwork each month is produced by artists from around the world and a new musician collaborates (almost) every month. James Ward is a self-taught guitarist and pianist, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band Sparta and co-founder of the seminal post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, which he formed in 1993 when he was 17 years old.
