Today Ryan McMullan releases his new single ‘Ruthless Cupid’, taken from the forthcoming eponymous EP. The Ruthless Cupid EP is an all-out attack on the most famous matchmaker of all time, Cupid. We tend to see him as a hopeless romantic who found joy in finding love, but what if all Cupid ever wanted was to find love for himself? What if Cupid was cursed to only ever find love for others? A novel idea and one that Ryan McMullan used as the jumping-off point for his latest bunch of songs.

Ryan explains, ‘These songs reflect a handful of times where it felt like Cupid has been toying with me. Amusing himself by throwing me into situations where I’m either out of my depth, hoping for reconciliation, or unable to escape the truth that even at the end, I’m still holding on to even the worst of my attempts at love.’

Even if Ryan feels that his attempts at love have failed, he sure hasn’t failed when it comes to his work! 2019 has been a huge year for the Portaferry native, with the success of his singles ‘Rebellion’, and ‘Make A Mark’, a collaboration with Beoga. He has toured non-stop, playing his own sold-out shows in Dublin and Belfast and playing support slots with The Coronas on their Long Way Home tour in Ireland and Foy Vance on his US tour. He also opened for Snow Patrol in the USA, Europe, Australia and Asia and stood in as an honorary member of the band when guitarist Johnny McDaid was recovering after surgery.

Even amongst this busy schedule, Ryan has found time to write, something which will delight his fans who are impatiently awaiting his debut album. The Ruthless Cupid EP is part of the fruits of this labour, and his album is expected late 2020. In fact, 2020 is shaping up to be another productive year for Ryan with a solo US tour booked for January and February. The new decade holds much to be excited about for Ryan.
