ON THE TURNTABLE: Urbs - Geheimland

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Austrian veteran producer and musician Paul Nawrata AKA Urbs, makes a very welcome return with his new album ‘Geheimland’, which was made during the lockdown and named after a made-up word for another world by his clearly, very talented, three-year-old son.

This is an album for those who like to chill; although it’s a mixture of genres, if I were to stick a label on it, I’d go with downtempo Balearic. It’s a mixture of live instruments, samples and electronic soundscapes with some great breaks and beats throughout.

If you dig Air and Kruder & Dorfmeister, then you’re going to love this. If you need to wind down, then let this be your soundtrack and treat yourself to the sounds of Urbs and get lost in the make-believe world of ‘Geheimland’. Out now on Compost Records.
