As Groove Armada, Tom Findlay and Andy Cato are undeniably one of the most influential forces in dance music and embellished in the fabric of UK music history. After hinting at new material over the past few weeks, the duo has shared the first new single from their album and accompanying video.
‘Get Out On The Dancefloor’ is a fresh and potent sound for the band in 2020. The lead single of the new album, it features Empire of the Sun and Pnau frontman Nick Littlemore, whose stream-of-consciousness vocals on the track merge with Groove Armada’s slick grooves to create an unrivaled and infectious energy.
The duo had accumulated hundreds of extracts of Littlemore’s vocals and painstakingly edited them together into something fresh and vibrant. Cato recalls, “As I went through the recordings of Nick, I realised there were lots of cool phrases and great deliveries we could use. It took a very long time to find the right order for them, but once we had that line ‘Get out on the dancefloor, it felt vibey. Slotting the music underneath was the easy bit!”.
The video features cameo performances filmed by Groove Armada super fans in isolation from lockdown across the globe. They include US actress Rose McGowan, singer Sophie Ellis Bextor and UK drag star Davina De Campo, plus an army of TikTok’s biggest names.
