To commemorate what is already shaping up to be an incredible 2015, Courtney Barnett will be releasing not only a stunning repackage of her breakthrough debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, but also a special brand new 7″ single produced by Jack White for his Third Man Records Blue Series.
Over the course of the year, Courtney has undeniably consolidated her position as one of the best and brightest new stars on the musical landscape, with Sometimes… more than delivering on the charm and promise showcased on her The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas collection. Critics from the likes of NPR, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Pitchfork, and many more lined up to declare it one of the most accomplished debuts of the year, with the album debuting in the top 10 Billboard charts and Courtney herself playing TV shows such as Jimmy Fallon, Ellen Degeneres and Conan. She will be back in the US this month playing Madison Square Garden and The Hollywood Bowl opening for Blur, there can be little doubt that Courtney is a superstar in the making.
Listen to “Shivers” BELOW:
To celebrate, Courtney will be releasing a special edition boxset in November. It includes a previously unreleased live set of recordings including “History Eraser” and “Avant Gardener” recorded at New York’s legendary Electric Lady Studios, her cover of John Cale’s “Close Watch”, as well as a beautiful poster of the album artwork and 4 Polaroids taken by Courtney herself. There will also be a special limited edition LP on gorgeous yellow vinyl, with all the above trimmings, and there will also be a special edition of the album available digitally.
That’s not the half of it, though. Courtney has also teamed up with none other than Jack White to release a single in White’s Third Man’s “Blue Series”, in which artists passing through Nashville are invited to stop by White’s studio to record a few songs, which are then pressed onto vinyl and released on iTunes as quickly as possible. The A-side “Boxing Day Blues (revisited)” is an epilogue to the closer track of her debut album, and the B-side is a cover of “Shivers” by Boys Next Door (which you can hear now). She joins joins the prestigious likes of Beck, Tom Jones and First Aid Kit as artists who have participated in this exciting series. Pre-order the Jack White 7″ here.
It brings 2015 to a triumphant close for one of our most brilliantly talented, idiosyncratic and critically lauded stars. Here’s to more in 2016…
