CHILD OF THE PARISH share uplifting new single 'Quiet Life' ahead of their new EP

Last year saw Child of the Parish achieve a whirlwind of critical acclaim for their exploratory mix of genres, blending modernist influences with fresh throwback touches to the ‘70s and ‘80s. They ended the year with fresh Radio 1 support from Kerrie Cosh. So far, the duo have also earned airplay from Radio 1 (Jack Saunders) and 6 Music (Lauren Laverne), accumulated over 5 million streams to date and are constantly adding to a growing list of tastemaker support.

Child of the Parish now continue their stellar run of form as they today share their new single ‘Quiet Life’, which is their first release of 2022. It previews their eagerly anticipated second EP ‘Quiet Life’, which will be released on 22nd April.

The new single ‘Quiet Life’ finds the sonic alchemists creating something idiosyncratic from their wide-ranging reference points. Punchy hip-hop beats and bass provide the foundation for the duo to experiment with everything from luscious, dreamy vocal harmonies that feel like a voice from another dimension, swathes of dystopian synths, and a talkbox effect rarely heard since the ‘70s.

The track features co-production from Paul White (Danny Brown, Charli XCX) and mixing courtesy of Nathan Boddy(James Blake, Celeste, Mura Masa, London Grammar).

Child of the Parish commented, “‘Quiet Life’ is about how often life is anything but. Having escaped to the countryside myself in pursuit of this, and not particularly calmed down in any perceivable way, the song is semi-autobiographical. But it takes the idea on a bit of a wonky trip to bat-country, tipping a fisherman’s hat to the ether-soaked world of Hunter S. Thompson, one of my heroes in literature.

There are elements of hip hop in the production (we thought there was still room to squeeze a couple more genres into the album!), so we were delighted to have Paul White on co-production as we’re huge fans of his work on Danny Brown’s amazing ‘Atrocity Exhibition’.”

‘Quiet Life’ will feature on the upcoming EP alongside the recent singles ‘Midas Touch’ and ‘Forever’s Not Enough’. It will be completed by a brand new track in the shape of ‘Ghost of a Chance’.

Psychedelia, dance, rock, indietronica, disco, R&B, hip-hop: you name the genre and there’s every chance that you’ll hear an echo of it in Child of the Parish’s growing body of work. Consisting of brothers, producers and multi-instrumentalists Ben and Tom Vella, they first set out their creative agenda with their independently released debut EP ‘Make It Better’.

Child of the Parish’s music is complemented by a singular aesthetic which is quickly becoming a hallmark. ‘Stranger Things’ graphic artist Pius Bak is their regular collaborator, not only creating their artwork but also using his high impact illustrations to bring their accompanying graphic novel, written by Ben Vella and Richard Brown, to life.

Initially constricted by lockdown, Child of the Parish will soon unleash their full live experience. It promises to fuse the dynamic energy of their live band with a euphoria inspired by their love of dance music, and completed by visual references to the art that builds a world around their songs.
