ALBUM REVIEW: HURRICANE #1 - Find Out What You Love and Let it Kill You

Hurricane #1 formed in Oxford in 1996 by Andy Bell, formerly of Ride, and vocalist/guitarist Alex Lowe. The band also consisted of Will Pepper on Bass and Gareth Farmer on the sticks. They released their self-titled album in September ’97 which reached a very respectable #11 on the album charts. The band also released a few singles including the fantastic Step into My World.

After the release of their second album in July ’99, the band became no more as Andy Bell threw in the towel and went to play guitar for Gay Dad and then Oasis with Alex Lowe going on to pursue a solo career releasing 3 albums. After a long period battling Cancer and surviving Alex Lowe has resurrected Hurricane #1, they are back 16 years later with a new line up and fantastic new album Find Out What You Love and Let It Kill You.

Think of the Sunshine was the first post-reformation track from the band released in August; it has a very distinctive blend of all that’s good about British rock and pop from the last 20 odd years. Although there is a kind of sixties flowery feel to the guitar and melody. Another highlight is the positive The Best is Yet To Come. The rest of the album is very upbeat and filled with hook laden summary anthems, perfect to get you through the winter chill. A welcome return.
