UK rapper Yxng Bane is pleased to announce a headline show in Belfast’s Elmwood Hall on Saturday, November 03rd 2018. Yxng Bane first appeared online when he dropped “Lone Wolf” on Soundcloud at the age of 19. Despite being an unknown artist with little to no following, the song went on to amass over 790,000 plays, making him an immediate ‘one to watch’. In the two years that have followed, he’s released an endless stream of dancehall-fused rap and R&B tracks that have set the internet alight.
He’s featured on the colossal top ten records “Bestie” with Yungen, released his own blockbuster in the shape of “Fine Wine” (featuring Kojo Funds), and toured sold-out shows from Dubai to Ibiza. Earlier this year, the MOBOs honoured his rise to fame by making him a nomination for the Best Newcomer award and Best Song (“Bestie” with Yungen). One of his biggest singles of 2017 so far has been “Rihanna”, which entered the UK top 40 in August and has hit 6 million plays and counting.
Bane grew up in Custom House, a district in the London borough of Newham, to a mother from the Congo and a dad from Angola. “You’re growing up on the edge around there,” he says. At the start of 2017, he was still mostly known around London and the UK rap underground, and not the mainstream world. That changed overnight in January when he decided to jump on Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” and sweeten it up for the raves. The resulting track went viral, racking up 14million views on YouTube, and became an official remix.
Add to that a show at the Royal Albert Hall supporting Wiz Kid, festival sets at Lovebox and Disturbing Ibiza, and weekly gigs up and down the country, and you could say Bane had a busy year. At the end of the summer, he signed to the independent record label Disturbing London – home to Tinie Tempah – to continue his artistic remit: to keep people guessing. New single “Froze”, which dropped via Link Up TV, is mean rap banger produced by Splurge Boys that’s already a complete departure from his other songs this year. “Authentic, original and unpredictable,” is how Bane describes his sound when I ask him, “But we haven’t even got started yet.”
