UK duo Wings of Desire – AKA James Taylor and Chloe Little – announce debut anthology release Life Is Infinite for December 8th – this collects together the formative tracks of their opening era. They released two further singles, ‘A Gun In Every Home’ and ‘001 [Tame The War, Feed The Fire]’ today. ‘A Gun In Every Home’ lands with a stunning one-shot live video, too.

Operating at the intersection between pensive reflection and brash catharsis, Wings of Desire’s gritty dream-pop aims to resolve on a life-affirming beat. Unafraid to look beneath the stone and observe an underworld of destructive social tendencies, there is nonetheless an optimism that things can be different.

The latest portents of an anthology release which contextualises their musical and thematic mission fall in line with this approach again as they elaborate:

‘A Gun In Every Home’“Surrendering to yourself can be one of the most difficult things to achieve. We have so many mental programs and blocks preventing us from allowing ourselves to just ‘be’. A gun in every home explores the idea of reflecting on one’s shadow in order to break through to the other side. A dark night of the soul, although painful, is a necessary storm we have to go through in order to experience growth and expansion in this incarnation.”

‘001 [Tame The War, Feed The Fire]’“Is it our burning desires which will lead us and our planet to our ultimate destruction? Or will strength, love and unity lead us to a new beginning? A grand reset… our year zero.

001 was a song written before this incarnation of the band. The last few lines giving us the final piece of the puzzle…our name: ‘Tame the war, feed the fire, can’t deny the wings of desire’.

Our desires often take over us and have wings of their own. We must eliminate/burn through our desires in order to reach higher states of consciousness. Our attachments can lead us down destructive paths.”

The project is born out of questions that may never be answered. James and Chloe draw inspiration from the seminal music of early noughties NYC, Factory Records and Krautrock, as well as the philosophies of 20th century thinkers and futurists such as Alan Watts, Noam Chomsky and Wim Wenders.

In a sonic sense, they zero in on a particular lived experience as a key catalyst:

“We were inspired by a trip to Berlin where we visited the legendary Hansa studios, and got drunk at Neues Ufer.”

The former guildhall’s iconic acoustics and enviable thread of musical history (at times the haunt of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop and more) makes a perfect spiritual home for the band’s transcendent command of sound and emotion.
