VIDEO PREMIERE: Samantha Clemons new single ‘BURN’ - Watch Now

Texas Folk-Blues singer-songwriter Samantha Clemons will release her long-awaited debut EP Burn on Friday, May 25th. The five-song record blends vintage soul, gritty blues and folk storytelling is preceded by the stunning lead single and the title track, available to stream from today. Watch the video below exclusive to XS Noize.

“It’s clear we’ve come to an impasse in our public discourse. Neither side is willing to cede anything to the other,” explains Clemons. “This song is a reflection on that: the idea that we’ve just been talking past one another and have lost sight of the fact that we occupy a lot of common ground. And while it can certainly be said that for some of us, an underlying malevolence is in play, at the heart of this tension are many of the same concerns, grievances and aspirations. The first step forward is the willingness to get uncomfortable for the sake of one another, for the sake of ourselves – to be willing to put the shoe on the other foot.”

For Samantha, the road to her debut EP has taken a long way around. Clemons’ sound is sonorous but immediate and intimate, ringing out over her percussive-style guitar from the depths of a long life that’s been crowded into too few years. A nomadic childhood as the daughter of two Army vets led to spells living in North Carolina, California, Kansas and Germany before she put roots down in Texas. As an artist, it’s been a slow burn as Samantha shed her initial acoustic pop sound and began channelling her frustration and disappointment at the dramatic social and political shifts of recent years. Leaving the love ballads and feel-good anthems behind, Samantha took up the mantle of the mourners and the maligned, opting to saddle up to the sorrow she was swimming in.
