TRACK REVIEW: Ferocious Dog – Blood Soaked Shores

Ferocious Dog – Blood Soaked Shores

Music has always been important in bringing attention to social and political issues, especially for those who feel they do not have a voice. There is a rich heritage of artists who have used music to encourage change—Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Gil Scott-Heron, and Billy Bragg, to name just a few from a long, significant list. And you can add Ferocious Dog to that roster.

‘Blood Soaked Shores’ is the second release from their forthcoming album, Kleptocracy, released on 17th May via Graphite Records. It’s a rollicking three minutes of folk-punk that examines our involvement in questionable wars and the price soldiers and their families pay. Ferocious Dog lead singer Ken Bonsall has experienced this first-hand after his son, Lee, sadly took his own life after serving in Afghanistan.

“When the blood on the streets gets washed away with the rain/Where Mothers and Fathers cry for loved ones in vain/Our memories diminish with each passing day/But we won’t be silenced, we will fight for our say”, cries Bonsall as he vows to fight for the justice soldiers and their families deserve. Backed by an up-tempo musical offering which sounds like a wonderful hybrid of The Pogues, Stiff Little Fingers and Dropkick Murphys, served in a well-packed, tasty cob, Ferocious Dog is proof that you can make music that sounds great and still deliver a message concerning significant, challenging topics.

The Hell Hounds, the collective name for the band’s fans, will be happy with this new offering and the promise it delivers for their new album. I am pretty sure this track will get an airing on their forthcoming tour, too. If you like music with punch, purpose, energy, and integrity, take a listen to Ferocious Dog. Go on… you might just become a new recruit to the Hell Hounds!
