TRACK PREMIERE: Sky Olson – Lighthouse

TRACK PREMIERE: Sky Olson - Lighthouse

Utah-based indie-pop newcomer Sky Olson is back with his new single ‘Lighthouse’. Following the success of previous singles ‘Dear Katie’, ‘I Dreamed Up A Dream’ and ‘F*** That Guy’ which saw Sky gain placements across Spotify playlists and reviews on the likes of A&R Factory, the new single is Sky’s fourth release of the year, giving an insight into the prolific nature of Sky’s writing.

A multi-instrumentalist writing, recording and producing from his bedroom, the new single sees Sky venture into the world of Electro-Pop. Blending plucky arpeggiators, electronic beats and subtle electronic bass to create a shimmering, airy soundscape under sky’s breathy vocals. Packed with emotion, the track’s chorus pulls together harmonising synth notes creating a beautiful Sufjan Stevens-esque atmosphere.

Using music as a way to journal his life experiences, Sky’s lyrics often speak about personal experiences. Suffering with a chronic illness and having been through a few years of difficult experiences, Sky uses his music as a healing process whilst also trying to spread a message of melancholic hopefulness.

Speaking on ‘Lighthouse’ Sky said:

“Lighthouse is a reflection of my experiences struggling with chronic illness. After searching for so long for answers that would explain my failing health, it was hard to avoid giving in to despair. I had to learn to accept uncertainty as a fundamental element of being human, while at the same time holding on to the hope that drives me forward. Lighthouse embodies my insecurity about, but ultimate acceptance of, uncertainty.”
