Vietnamese- American school teacher, Monét Ngo is making his artist debut with his infectious coming of age sounding single ‘Lonestar’. Creating the music “he wishes he could have listened to as he grew up”, Monét is delivering a unique blend of indie-rock, alt-RnB with elements of pop-punk. His debut single finds him crafting a song that perfectly evokes the nostalgic feeling of being back at high school and experiencing all those unforgettable moments and memories.
“I’m an elementary school teacher by day and musician by night. I’m making music that encapsulates what it was like for me growing up and figuring myself out as a millennial. It’s always hard to define yourself, hope the music will help people to grow through the process” – Speaking on his musical journey
Creating his TikTok account a few months ago, he has garnered over 250,000 likes and almost 10k followers, where he posts daily about him and his music.
Speaking on the new single, he describes that:
“Lonestar was written at one of the lowest points in my life. It was a time where I was feeling a lot of social anxiety amongst my peers and I was dwelling on past mistakes and conversations. I was feeling very disassociated from my body and mind due to a bad tattooing experience on top of already dealing with a lot of daily anxiety. I was at a turning point in my life where I wasn’t sure who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do next with my future.
Should I follow the safe route and pursue teaching, or should I work even harder to pursue my dream with music?
First single and introduction to the project, the aggressive tone of the song sets the tone for Monét trying to come to terms with all these sources of anxiety within his life.
