Emerging late in 2012, London based trio Desert Mountain Tribe are proving to be one of the more formidable psychedelic rock bands around at the moment. In the short time they have been together, the band, comprising of Jonty Balls (Guitar/Vocals), and brothers Philipp (Bass) and Felix (Drums) Jahn have shared the stage with the likes of Toy, Wovenhand, The Wytches and Damp Suzuki.
Their debut EP, recorded direct to tape at Shaken Oak Studios in Oxfordshire and mastered by Brett Orrison of The Black Angels in 2013, was released as a limited edition 12” vinyl in the spring of 2014 and received very positive reviews, while lead track “Take A Ride” attracted airplay on BBC6 Music. Stand –out track “Coming Down” was also featured on Reverb Conspiracy Volume 2 (released jointly by Fuzz Club Records and Austin Psych Fest). 2015 has seen Desert Mountain Tribe attract attention from the psych community in mainland Europe via appearances at well-respected festivals such as Eindhoven Psych Lab and Lisbon Psych Fest along with their first headline tour of Scandinavia, the Baltics and Germany.
This led to a Europe-wide deal with the Hamburg based indie powerhouse Membran, who will release the band’s debut album in March 2016. Taster song “Runway” is a cracking number with a driving drum beat and frenetic, sharp guitar arrangements which combine to make an epic, expansive song with a retro nod to rock and roll and a hint of brit pop. It’s a great track and proves Desert Mountain Tribe are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
