London quartet The Boxer Rebellion today reveal the video for their anthemic single Weapon. It’s the opening song from their highly anticipated fifth album Ocean By Ocean which is out now.
The new video cleverly follows on from the first single ‘Big Ideas’, based within a sleazy grime story & sin city darkness. Weapon was an important part in shaping Ocean By Ocean, celebrating a sparkling, yet sinister 1980’s influence that has been impeccably captured once more in this new video.
Both videos were masterminded by director/animator Adam Avilla in Hollywood earlier this year. Adam commented: “I wanted to create a visual dance between the two characters who are both each other’s salvation as well as each other’s demise. The song and story lent itself to the classic archetypes of the grizzled detective and the femme fatale; both strong but troubled characters who carry a cloud of doom about them.”
The band added: “We recorded much of the album in Los Angeles and wanted to preserve some of that atmosphere in the album artwork and the video story that links Big Ideas to Weapon. Adam Avilla’s vision captures not only the SoCal feeling but also addresses the noiresque aspects of the songs themselves.”
Having just completed the first US leg of the Ocean By Ocean tour, The Boxer Rebellion today announce a huge European tour including UK winter dates in Manchester, Brighton, Leeds and finally touching down for their special hometown show at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 7th December.

The Boxer Rebellion are one of those rare bands who stay the course. Rarer still are the ones who get better over the years until quietly, astutely, they deliver their classic. The Boxer Rebellion are one of those bands, and Ocean by Ocean is one of those records.
