PREMIERE: MATT MILLARD - Take Me Anywhere EP- Listen Now!

Birmingham singer-songwriter Matt Millard has announced the release of his debut EP. The Take Me Anywhere EP will arrive on streaming/download platforms on Friday 2nd March and is preceded by the beautiful yearning lead single and EP title track on Thurs 22nd Feb. XS Noize readers can listen exclusively to the EP below now.

“‘Take Me Anywhere’ is the title track from the EP, it’s a raw and honest song both lyrically and musically, written in a moment of struggle and uncertainty,” explains Millard. “The song is a plea to break away from a current situation, to seek escape and to find something new. The EP has recurring themes throughout but ultimately portrays the emotions felt when we reach the ending of youth and a ‘coming of age’.

It focuses on the struggles and frustrations we face being thrown into adulthood, and how at times our dreams and ambitions can feel impossible to reach.” Drawing influences from both recent folk revival artists Justin Vernon and Ben Howard and post-punk bands Joy Division and Interpol, Matt’s music combines intricate acoustic melodies with a warm yet melancholy vocal and sits somewhere between the two genres.

Early demos ‘Berlin’ and ‘Palace’ soon became fond favourites of BBC West Midland’s Introducing show, and he was invited to perform a live acoustic session. Autumn 2017 saw Matt Millard up his game, with his first official single release ‘Salt’ offering a more textured and atmospheric production that was again championed by the BBC. With a loyal following in the city, Matt will celebrate the release of the new EP and single with a show at O2 Academy Birmingham on 7th March.
