The anticipation in the air was palpable as fans packed Dublins Academy for a sold-out show by Luke Combs UK. This was part of a sell-out tour of Northern Ireland and Ireland, with the first of two nights sold out in Dublin.
As the lights went down, AC/DC “thunderstruck” Rang through the PA just like at Luke’s stadium concerts. The excitement grew as the band took to the stage. The first thing that struck me was the professionalism of the show that had been put together. The lighting and slickness of the introduction was clearly worked on relentlessly.
Dressed in signature plaid shirts and trucker hats, the band set the country mood and image. Kicking off the night with off the night with a powerful rendition of “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma,” it was immediately clear that not only did they look the part, but they sounded spot on too. As the heavy intro kicked in, Liam entered the stage as ‘Luke Combs’, dressed the exact same as the country megastar it was hard not to believe it was Luke himself as he strutted across the stage to the mic. The opening line to this song is a tough one for any singer, but they nailed it and had the crowd straight away.
The lead vocalist’s gritty voice and heartfelt delivery captured the essence of Luke Combs, while the band’s energetic musicianship drew the crowd in, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere. The audience couldn’t help but sing along and sway to the familiar tunes, feeling as though they were in the presence of the country music superstar himself. The band rolled through hit after hit including Luke’s more heartfelt ballads such as “Love you anyway”, “Going Going Gone” and to the delight of the Irish fans “5 leaf clover”. There is clearly a want from this band to engage with its audience. Liam looks at you whilst he’s singing and really did have this 800 strong Dublin crowd eating out of the palm of his hand with his likeness to the country megastar.
After the interval the band rolled out Luke’s biggest hits such as “hurricane”, “forever after all”, “beer never broke my heart” and of Course “beautiful Crazy” which the whole audience sang and Liam played acoustically. The band were delivered a rapturous reception and came back to encore with “when it rains it pours” much to the delight of fans.
Overall, Luke Combs UK tribute band delivered a sensational performance that paid homage to the artist in every way possible. You can clearly see why every city wants this band and they’re the busiest tribute band around at the moment. They sell tickets and are the closest thing you’ll get to Luke Combs without seeing him yourself.
The band have been endorsed by Luke Combs management and to be honest it’s no surprise. The band return for another tour of Ireland this May and have also confirmed an Ireland tour in May 2025.
