JAMES GILLESPIE shares new single 'Love On The Side' - Listen Now

Last year saw James Gillespie enjoy the biggest moment of his career to date when his Kygo collab ‘Gone Are The Days’ exceeded 60 million streams. The Norwegian superstar became the latest huge artist to celebrate James’s talents, following Sir Elton John and P!nk.

Now James again picks up momentum for 2022 by sharing his brand new single ‘Love On The Side’, which finds the sweet spot between a playful modern pop jam and James’ vintage soul influences. Although its title suggests it will be something more introspective, its positive spirit contains an empowering message – if someone is unable or unwilling to fully commit to you, breaking free of the relationship will ultimately be for the best.

James says, “‘Love On The Side’ is a story about being so in love and feeling all those emotions that you have been searching for, but with someone already in a relationship. It’s hoping that this person is the one for you but wondering why they are still in their current relationship if they feel the same. If you’re head over heels, how do you stop loving someone if they don’t feel the same? You have tried to be their side piece but have fallen so deep that it’s just not possible any longer.

Saying goodbye to someone you love is hard but having that realisation is important. Especially when, even with so much love, you can’t go on with it any longer. It comes to the conclusion that if they love you like you love them then they wouldn’t be lying beside someone else at the same time. IF IT’S RIGHT FOR YOU – YOU’RE NOT RIGHT FOR ME.”

‘Love On The Side’ was written by James, and produced by Ed Thomas (Stormzy, Jorja Smith, Tom Grennan) with solo artist and producer Maths Time Joy (Mahalia, Snakehips, Bebe Rexha).

James Gillespie has inspired a growing following since he first emerged in 2019. His appeal comes down to time-honoured traits: his stirring, soulful vocal has an affecting quality that can only come from an artist who has lived through everything he sings about. Tracks from his debut album ‘safe.’ are now approaching 75 million streams at Spotify alone, and he showed his versatility prior to his Kygo feature by teaming up with Decco for ‘I Don’t Know’.

After recently releasing the ‘Live At St. Pancras Old Church’ album and selling out shows in New York and Los Angeles, James has just started a headline tour that calls at London’s Lafayette on March 30th. The remaining tickets for the shows, listed below, are available HERE.
