How Online Games are Revolutionizing the Music Industry

I don’t think the music industry has ever evolved as much as it has had to do in the last twenty years. We’ve gone from buying CDs and vinyl to audio streaming sites and downloading our favourite tunes. The physical aspect of music has died, and we’re now digital collectors instead. However, there’s another musical revolution occurring and that is thanks to casino games that now feature the official music of some of the world’s biggest bands.

iGaming is one of the world’s fastest-growing industries, and its impact can be felt everywhere. When you visit an online casino and open the best slot games, the experience is not just about what you see but also what you hear. In the same way that some background music puts you in the mood when working out, good tunes set the tone when playing slots.

However, in the old days, and still on many slots today, the music is generic. Not all of it, though, as some software developers have seen an opportunity to link music and bands to their titles. It promotes the music and also attracts fans of that music to the slots. It’s a tactic that seems to have caught on as more and more developers are forming partnerships with music publishers and bands.

NetEnt Began the Trend in 2016 with a Trio of Band-Themed Slots

NetEnt, one of the industry’s oldest iGaming slot developers, was among the first to spot an opportunity for some musical link-ups. In 2016, the developer released four rock band-themed slots that are popular to this day.

Arguably, the most successful of the three was the developer’s Guns N’Roses slot, a title themed on the legendary band of the same name. As players spin the reels on this 5-reel, 4-row, and 20-fixed payline slot, they get to hear classic songs such as Wild Side, Live Wire, and Girls, Girls, Girls. It also helps that the slot’s presentation is flawless, which is not a surprise considering this is an area where NetEnt usually shines.

The other three NetEnt music-themed slots released the same year were Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, and Motorhead. As you can see, the developer has a thing for rock music or so it seems.

Play’n Go the Most Recent Developer to Jump on the Music Slot Bandwagon

Play’n Go is another long-established online slot developer that has created some of the most successful slots around. Book of Dead and Fire Joker are two slots considered among the most popular of all time. Well, in the last couple of years, Play’n Go has taken branded music slots to a whole new level. The leading developer has hooked up with over a dozen bands, most of which, like NetEnt, are rock bands.

When you look through the studio’s slots portfolio, you’ll come across titles such as Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard: Hysteria, *NSYNC Pop, and KISS Reels of Rock. Other bands with Play’n Go slots released in their name include Twisted Sister, Black Mamba, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, and Snakebite. I’m sure the developer isn’t finished yet, either. It makes me wonder which bands are next on the list to have their music blaring out while players spin the reels.

Other Developers With Band Exclusive Slot Games

Not many other slot developers have followed the lead of NetEnt and Play’n Go, but that could be down to the cost element that comes with branded slots. That said, I do know of a couple of other band-themed slots. Arguably, Leander Games was the first developer to hook up with a band for a slot. The developer released Megadeth back in 2012, four years before NetEnt released its range of music slots.

Other than that, there’s Village People Macho Moves, a 15-payline slot from Fortune Factory Studios. That’s one of the only branded music slots that isn’t themed on a rock band, which is refreshing. Instead, it’s themed on a band famous for its pounding disco tunes of the 80s, such as Macho Man and Y.M.C.A. Admit it, you’re doing those infamous arm signals now, aren’t you?

If any of you out there are yet to play some of these banging titles, make sure you add them to your playlist for the next time you hit the online casinos. I can promise you that listening to classic hit songs as you spin the reels really adds to the occasion. You can tap your feet, sing along, and even bop your head as you hit some wins on some fantastic slot games. In fact, I’ve jogged my own memory writing this, so I think it’s about time I revisited some of these myself!
