Glasgow indie specialists Declan Welsh & The Decadent West announce eagerly anticipated second record ‘2’, arriving September 22nd via Frictionless Music, and share scintillating lead track ‘King Of My Head’, out today (February 22nd).

Recorded between Los Angeles and Glasgow throughout the previous twelve months, the band’s upcoming LP offers a distinct shift from the taut alternative rock that saw them gather a fervent fan base across Scotland, the rest of the UK, Europe and the Americas – signalling a band with ambitions far beyond what they’ve already achieved.

Encapsulating a band with expanded horizons, harnessing a broad scope of influence from ‘In Rainbows’ era Radiohead, to the New Romantic electronic soaked music of the 1980’s, the album was written and demoed entirely from Welsh’s bedroom and showcases their natural transition in sound, whilst retaining the acerbic lyricism and melodic focus present on their earlier work.

Preceded by first LP reveal ‘Mercy’ last autumn, the thriving quartet are primed to capitalise on their most successful year yet as a band, following a string of sold-out UK shows (including their biggest ever headline gig at Glasgow’s iconic Barrowland Ballroom & Twin Atlantic support tour), and having also seen their ‘It’s Been A Year’ EP longlisted for 2022’s Scottish Album of the Year Awards alongside the likes of Walt Disco and The Ninth Wave.

With a whole host of new material ready to be unleashed over the coming months, the four-piece are certainly ready to build on widespread press acclaim (The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, Clash, Under The Radar, Gigwise, The Forty-Five) and BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Jordan North) attention, whilst on the live front they’ll be hitting the road in April for a mini UK tour, before a prestigious slot on the main stage at TRNSMT in July before Pulp.

Detailing their newest effort, Welsh explained: “The lyrics are about kidding yourself that you’re in control. I’m the King of My Head, tell me who would rule instead? Cos see when your head’s working against you, you think to yourself sometimes – this is me. I’m doing this. I can stop this. I can think my way out of feeling this way. But the tool you have to fix the problem is the same one that causes it. Like fixing a hole in the wall with a hammer”.
