At long last! The wait is almost over as June is just around the corner, heralding the arrival of the highly anticipated Music of the Spheres tour kickoff in Athens– which at some point seemed like a whisper of possibility owing to structural issues in the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens.

The stadium was shut down in late 2023 due to safety concerns related to its metal roof structure and polycarbonate roofs which failed to meet the required standard of static adequacy. The closure was a renovation agreement, and all the activities in the stadium were suspended. This closure posed a problem for the football matches which were to be played in October and December. This put worries in the minds of millions of eagerly waiting fans globally who had purchased Coldplay Athens tickets and were anxiously waiting for the show.

However, between February and March 2024, Greek Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis declared it’s reopening in mid-April and the concert to proceed as planned.

The band of four have successfully concluded 5 shows in Asia, 15 shows in Europe, 22 shows in North America, 5 in South America, and 5 in Oceania within 2022 and 2023. This year, they are set to move on to the beautiful city of Athens where the show will be kicked off on the 8th of June and an extra day on the 9th for yet another stellar show. Coldplayers who witnessed electrifying performances at the band’s previous “Music of the Spheres Tour” are eagerly anticipating the 2024 Premiere of the Tour set to begin in Athens.

On 18th March 2022, global rock icons and seven-time Grammy award winners, Coldplay set out on their 7th worldwide musical concert odyssey, “Music of the Spheres Tour” to promote the album, “Music of the Spheres” which was released on 15th October 2021. The album was comprised of 12 tracks each associated with a cosmic counterpart in the fictional planetary system,” the spheres”. It featured other legendary acts such as BTS, Selena Gomez, Jacob Collier, We Are King, etc.

Since its release, the album has witnessed numerous successes in the UK, US and across the globe. It debuted atop the UK album chart, selling over 100,000 units in just its first week of release, and for the band’s 9th consecutive time, the album got to the top spot of the British album chart.

Over a decade after their last indoor performance in Greece which was held at the 2000 capacity Athens Concert Hall, Coldplay are set to return to the City of Owls more robustly as they’re set to host exciting Coldplayers to electrifying performances at the 75,000 capacity Athens Olympic Stadium.

With their tour scheduled for the 8th and 9th of June, the Chris Martin-led band will become the first international music act to perform two shows on a single tour in the Greek capital. The much anticipated “Human Heart” performance will be on display at the Olympic Stadium over 75,000 people will see their wristbands light into the shape of a heart through a controlled centralised system.

The British band were the first to introduce the use of “Xylobands” during their concerts and are on course to become the first musical act to make use of the “PixMob Hand Bands” in large numbers when the “Music of the Spheres Tour” kickoffs in Athens.

The record-breaking Tour has been on an upward pedestal setting and breaking all kinds of records. Coldplay recorded $100.5 million in just the first 13 concerts of the Tour which started in 2022. Since then, they have amassed record-breaking grossing numbers and are on course to reach the $1 billion mark accumulated from global concerts.

Coldplayers in Athens could be the first to be thrilled to the first move performance of the song “One World” where over 120,000 fans across the world lent their voices to perform a short singing rendition of “Ahhhh”. This sound will be infused into their new music which will be part of their upcoming 10th studio album called “Moon Music”.

Before the release of the “Music of the Spheres’ album, the British band had enjoyed significant success and recognition with the release of previous albums including “Viva la Vida”  in 2008 which marked a pioneering achievement for a British group to achieve the world’s best-selling album for a year.

Coldplay has also excelled in singles, receiving different recognitions for a host of their singles including “Higher Power” which was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.

They received a rousing worldwide acclaim after the release of “My Universe”, where they collaborated with BTS. The song was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group performance at the 65th Grammys and also debuted at no. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 chart marking Coldplay’s second time at the top spot as a British group. The tour which was scheduled to last from 2022-2024 across Europe, Latin America, Anglo-America, Asia and Oceania kicked off on 18th March 2022 in Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica. They aimed at having a tour for all which should be accessible to everyone, and for everyone to have the best experience. Sign language interpreters, sensory bags and mobile sensory devices, as well as touch tours, are offered to their fans and guests with related disabilities for them to feel connected. The concert itself has recorded huge successes so far with tickets being sold out completely months before.

Amid the concentration towards the anticipation of the Tour, one interesting thing Coldplay have achieved outside musical performance is their advocacy to raise awareness concerning climate change by incorporating environmental themes into their music and shows, thereby inspiring fans to take action.

While working alongside various environmental organizations, they have taken specific measures such as the “One Tree planting” campaign which over a million trees have been planted following the tickets sold for the concert. Other measures have been taken by the band throughout their tour to ensure a reduction in emission as they continue to embrace eco-friendly measures.

Upon the completion of their tour in Athens, Coldplay will embark on another musical tour across different cities and popular stadiums across Europe including

Arena Națională in Bucharest, Puskás Arena in Budapest Groupama Stadium in Lyon, as well as the Glastonbury Festival in Pilton.

Australia and New Zealand are set to host the second leg of the tour this year and the rock band will be performing at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Accor Stadium in Sydney and Eden Park in Aukland where the tour will be wrapped up.
