TRACK PREMIERE: ELPENTHE - What We Got Away With (Feat. Half Wolf)

Having already been in a number of bands and earned himself a strong reputation as a talented producer, ELPENTHE, whose real name is Elliot Beenk, is now putting himself firmly in the spotlight as a solo artist in his own right. He’s been praised and supported by The New York Times and American Songwriter, among others, and his popularity is steadily growing.

His latest single, “What We Got Away With” (featuring Half Wolf), which XS Noize are proud to premiere, is a showcase of how his music is inspired and informed by his love of nature and community – as an environmentalist with a master’s degree in environmental engineering, they’re two of the things he most passionately supports and believes in.

Asked about the creation of the new track, ELPENTHE shares: “There are lessons to be learned in the life cycle of every song. WWGAW started with Half Wolf’s inimitable storytelling as a folk song on the piano. Wolf reminisced when writing the song, ‘I was thrown in the back of a cop car half-naked with my best friend and a boy we met at the gas station earlier that day — I was instantly drawn to the tales of teenage triumph. The challenge with this song was finding a way to keep the intimacy and excitement simultaneously.”

Of the difficulties faced and overcome during the recording process, he goes on to add: “We had several versions that we loved but wanted the drums to knock harder, which led us to bring in TK Kayembe to add his signature cheat codes. After sixty-three versions, ‘What We Got Away With – thefinalversionforrealreal_sushi – v63’ was the final version that got sent off to mix — a humbling reminder that part of the excitement is letting a song surprise you.”
