THE CRIBS share the latest release of their ‘Sonic Blew Singles Club'

The Cribs have announced details of Things Could Be Better / Yellow Venus, the latest release from their ‘Sonic Blew Singles Club’.

The final of four singles club releases, it follows September’s Swinging At Shadows / Taken To Tualatin, October’s The Day I Got Lost Again / Opaline And Evergreen, and last month’s Sucked Sweet / Bad Dream.

Talking about Things Could Be Better, Gary from the band said:

This song is a true full-band effort – it required all 3 of the brothers to make it happen. I originally started work on the track back in 2011, whilst we were writing “In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull”. It was supposed to be an anniversary present for my wife (who was away on tour at the time). Unfortunately, around that time a friend of ours was involved in an accident and ended up in the ICU, and so I shelved the song indefinitely due to the sad memories that became attached to it.

Later, on the last day of the “Night Network” sessions in LA, Ross insisted that we bring the song back and try recording it last minute before leaving the studio. I was pretty reluctant, but he eventually talked me around. Then, Ryan stepped in and took responsibility for writing the lyrics and singing the lead – and turned it into something way better than I ever could’ve imagined.

So, despite spending over a decade gathering dust, I am really proud of how this song eventually came into being. It’s pretty special.

Since launching in September, the Sonic Blew Singles Club has delivered a brand new 2-track 7” single to it’s subscribers each month. December’s release will conclude the series and will be delivered with special membership items such as a collectors box, sew-on membership patch, and exclusive sticker. All tracks are available on DSP’s.

Having released their eighth album Night Network to universal acclaim in November 2020, the 7” releases from the Singles Club feature previously unheard songs from the album sessions (recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606) on the A-side, paired with home recordings undertaken during lockdown on the B-side.
