The critically celebrated UK electro/indie-rock band The Big Pink release two new singles, “How Far We’ve Come” and a cover of New Order’s classic “Blue Monday” today to celebrate the “Blue Monday Alternative Record Store Day Event” at Blank City Records’ event space in Los Angeles. “How Far We’ve Come” features guest vocals from Ioanna Gika of Io Echo and guest guitars from Nick Zinnerof the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and is available digitally today, Monday, November 27th 2017, followed by a very limited edition pressing on used medical X-Ray, special edition blue & clear Flexi vinyl in December 2017. Whilst the cover of New Order’s classic “Blue Monday” will be available FOR FREE for 24 hours only HERE before being released digitally across all platforms to celebrate the label’s alternative record store day event in Los Angeles, CA.

“Originally this track came from a writing session for Io Echo with Dave McCracken and me in Salm Studio in London. Somehow I managed to take it for my new record,” explains the Big Pink’s main man Robbie Furze. “When we started getting into the full production of this track with Jon Gilbert in LA, I was lucky to have Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) join the mix and add the most amazing wall of guitars. This is the opening track to my new record and it made sense to be the first glimpse of The Big Pink’s third full length. I am very proud to be releasing this on Blank City Records.”

Only 100 X-Ray pressings will be available and a Flexi vinyl run of 150 very limited blue and clear edition with special interchangeable artwork that will can be used across all editions for fans to create their own piece of Big Pink art.

The release will coincide with an alternative Record Store Day entitled “Blue Monday” that will take place at Blank City Records’ arts space in Echo Park, Los Angeles, CA on Monday November 27th featuring pop-up stores from local labels, live bands and artists. Joining up with local record labels Chainletter Collective (Piebald / Facial / Manuok) and Lolipop Records (Thee Oh Sees / Mystic Braves / The Creation Factory), Blank City Records continues its support of all things local and giving a community to those labels shut out of the once independent inspired Record Store Day, which has now become dominated by major labels. Any local labels that wish to be part of the event can email the label at [email protected] to be part of the event. The free all-ages event will run from 12 noon until 8pm and feature live music from Chainletter Collective signing dimber, Blank City bands, as well as a DJ set from The Big Pink and an exhibition by artist Mollie Tuggle, who will be showing her hand painted rock’n’roll show posters.

Talking about the inspiration for the “Blue Monday” event, Blank City Records co-founder Marc Sallis says: “Our ‘Blue Monday’ event isn’t about not supporting Record Store Day and our local independent record stores, it’s a reaction to feeling shut out of that once brilliant independent event by the major labels who are flooding the market with vinyl and pushing their way to the front of the printing presses, which is sending the indie artists and labels to the back of the line and creating delays to their releases. As much as we love many major artists, does the world really need another overpriced Hendrix or Metallica reissue? This certainly isn’t how RSD started out, so we’d like to take it back to its original indie roots for a day. We are very much about community and supporting our local stores, artists and suppliers, but we also want to support our fellow local labels and create that community with them too – we’re not in competition, we’re comrades in arms. Releasing music is tougher than ever, so we’d like to offer our home to our fellow independent labels too and support each other.”
