Stockholm’s Velocet offer up undeniable pop cuts, centred around their charming yet deadpan delivery, the vein of Grimes, Charli XCX and FKA Twigs. Meeting at the Royal Ballet Academy in Stockholm, a classically trained nature gave way a playful, chaotic side – they are as comfortable acknowledging influences taken from composers and Opera as the three Ls – Lana Del Rey, Leonard Cohen and Lil Wayne.
On new single ‘Money First’, echoing, reverb-drenched vocals are punctuated with unrelenting beats that crackle and pop with exuberance. The flashes of colour present in their music is visually represented through Velocet’s striking aesthetic – monochromatic backdrops dominated by flashes of violet and turquoise.
Velocet tells us that “this song is about going back to old habits, to claim your own priorities after you’ve lost someone. Like a personal handbook, which lacks logic but is easy to follow.”
