In their 30th anniversary year, Shed Seven have almost exhausted their bucket list with their first-ever No.1 album and two huge celebratory homecoming shows in their hometown of York now completed. Now Shed Seven continue a remarkable 2024 by releasing the new single ‘Waiting For The Catch’, which features Issy Ferris of Ferris & Sylvester, the UK folk/rock/Americana duo who released their second album ‘Otherness’ earlier this year.
Premiered this morning on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, ‘Waiting For The Catch’ feels as if Shed Seven have channelled all their most essential traits into a single song. Fuelled by a balance between optimism and yearning that echoes their iconic anthem ‘Chasing Rainbows’, the blend of Rick Witter’s impassioned, full-feeling vocals with peppy, vivacious beats and an evocative Paul Banks solo makes it a crowning moment of their catalogue. And in Issy Ferris they have the feminine elegance to contrast Rick’s distinctive tone, while the ‘Liquid Gold’ strings provide an emotional heft and a grand sense of drama.
Rick Witter says, “‘Waiting For The Catch’ fits perfectly alongside some of our biggest hits. The song has the classic ‘can’t live with you, can’t live without you’ sentiment and we felt making it a duet would fit perfectly with the lyrical theme, so we invited the amazing Issy Ferris to add her beautiful voice to the track which gives it a yearning, but also vengeful energy. You want to hear Shed Seven arena-sized? No problem, it’s our pleasure.”

‘Waiting For The Catch’ features on the upcoming orchestral reworks album ‘Liquid Gold’, which is out on September 27th. Shed Seven have just launched the new bootleg edition of the album, each with artwork individually hand-stamped by the band. It adds three songs from their BBC Piano Room session, a live recording of ‘Casino Girl’, and remix of ‘In Ecstasy’.
So much has already happened in Shed Seven’s 30th anniversary year, but there’s plenty more to come before 2024 is out. Following the recent news that they will play their debut album ‘Change Giver’ in full (alongside a greatest hits set) at a number of live dates in October, Shed Seven now have 49 shows on the calendar, almost all of which are already sold-out. There are also outdoor shows, with Blossoms and at BBC Radio 2 in the Park, a record store tour and a massive full-scale anniversary tour, before Rick Witter and Paul Banks bring the curtain down on their celebrations with two special duo performances in York.
