Following the new album and tour announcement, We Are Scientists deliver another tantalising taste of the Huffy universe today.  Thematically following on from the previous release ‘Fault Lines’, the new track takes aim at social media, and how many of its users (the band included) often fail to apply the most basic forms of etiquette when engaging in endless beefs online.

Singer and guitarist Keith Murray starts to tell us where he’s coming from whilst providing context for the origins of ‘Handshake Agreement’...“Do you ever find yourself in the middle of a passionate argument about politics or art or, like, whether people should ever wear hats (no, they shouldn’t, unless it’s very cold), and suddenly realize that, somehow, you’re making a desperate defence for a position that you don’t even really believe, or care about, or have the slightest bit of real information on? Sadly, I’m in this position all too often. It’s a bad habit, and I’m working on it. Please let me use this moment to apologize to my bandmates, to my wife, to anyone who’s ever talked to me after two beers.”

With the apology out the way, Keith continues… “I could get into how, as far as I can tell, social media has reduced public conversation to this sort of dialogue, where everything is half-believed but doubly-passionate, but, let’s be honest nobody wants to hear already-obvious social theory from a guitar player.”

Keith then comes to a succinct and snappy conclusion on the subject… “Suffice it to say that Handshake Agreement is my song about Twitter, and how whatever servers it’s being run on should be shot out of a cannon into the ocean, as quickly as possible, thanks.”

For the track’s accompanying video the band delve into another aspect of the world wide web as we know it today. The clip is being premiered on a channel belonging to familiar YouTube music critic Beef Harmon£y. Watch his live reaction and review of ‘Handshake Agreement’ here at 7 pm BST today.

Reacting to Beef Harmon£y’s live reaction to the video, Keith Murray responds… “After all these years of releasing music, you’d think I’d have a pretty thick skin, but I still have a hard time checking out comments online. When an incisive critic like Beef Harmon£y weighs in though, I’m all ears.” Chris Cain adds… “We certainly wish he had liked it more, but even just getting on his channel is a crazy honor!”

With a welcome reception to the album’s lead single ‘Contact High’ and anticipation building for the band’s live return here in the UK, We Are Scientists ensure they’ll leave no stone unturned on the Come On, Get Huffy Tour. Calling at legendary venues like Sheffield’s Leadmill, Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club, Whelan’s Dublin and Concorde 2 in Brighton to name a few, a total of 13 dates conclude at the O2 Forum Kentish Town on Thursday 9th December.

Huffy, the first new album in over 3 years, is set to drop on 8th October via 100% Records.
