VIDEO PREMIERE: SHE OWL, ‘Glass’ – Watch Now

SHE OWL

Today XS Noize exclusively premiere the official video of Glass by She Owl, a song from their last Ep Drifters, to celebrate its first birthday. Due to an extensive tour that led up to David Lynch-designed Club Silencio in Paris, sharing the stage with Cat Power, the dream-pop duo marked by the sultry, spellbinding voice of Jolanda Moletta took some time to translate their musical concept into multiple-short-films-project, and they started by looking into the picture on the cover of their last album (a surreal homage to Magritte’s ‘The Lovers’) to see what happens outside the frame.

In Jolanda’s words: “I always write with a few instruments in my hands and a storm of images in my mind. The song Glass is about relationships and romance, focusing on the moment we realize that we were trying to please the others by imitating them. I see the person I love behind a cold, glass wall and I pretend there are no hindrances. As for me, the only way to reach out is to enjoy this game together.”

Directed by Esteban Amon, the short film is choreographed by Jolanda: “Esteban is magical, it’s been like watching the images I had in my mind come to life. I’m so happy we didn’t rush and had the opportunity to work with him. It’s crucial that me and Demian are the actors in this performance because what you will see is two people who know each other since they were kids, one playing the other like an instrument”.

Formed in 2013 by Jolanda Moletta and Demian Endian, the nomadic couple left its Italian homeland to live and create music on the road, fueled by two main sources of energy: travelling and the love for wilderness. She Owl mixes dream pop, dark indie elements, cinematic emotional arrangements, with haunting, sultry vocals into an original musical framework.

The duo toured extensively in 21 countries and released the two full-lengths She Owl (2013) and Animal Eye (2015), plus the new E.P. Drifters (October 2017), all produced together with Bay Area producer George S. Rosenthal. The Drifters Ep tour ended in June 2018, sharing the stage with Cat Power at David Lynch-designed Club Silencio in Paris. Described as “an emotional journey on David Lynch’s Lost Highway, with Bat for Lashes and PJ Harvey on the front seats”, She Owl’s Drifters gathers dreamy soundscapes and haunting ballads.

The EP is a soundtrack for a surreal dream about the war within and the war without us. The music of She Owl gets more cinematic and punchy at once, showing the duo’s nomadic soul, with adventurous vocals and arrangements. The story behind it is a photograph of the times we’re in, taken by Jolanda and Demian after living as nomads for 5 years, constantly touring and constantly the western world.

Below you can read the lyrics of Glass:

Feel the cold
Crystal glow
So beautiful that I can’t breathe
Fields of snow
In eyes of gold
Take me home
Where I can breathe
I don’t want to sleep for another day
But I won’t wake up until the glass breaks
I don’t want to sleep for another day
But I won’t wake up until the glass breaks
(I feel so cold)
