18-year-old Bognor Regis based solo shoegazer, Josh Hazelden has burst onto the southern UK scene already gaining high praise from BBC Introducing. Having signed with Novium Records following his previously self-released debut album ‘Without Balance’, Josh is back with his new single ‘Transparent’.
A spacious, dreamy soundscape, ‘Transparent’ is a true demonstration of Josh’s natural ability to create effortlessly cool, yet deeply personal and emotive music. Bright guitars bounce around tight drums while Hazelden’s lethargic, reverb-soaked vocals float hauntingly above, creating a melancholic soundscape akin to the likes of Slowdive and other shoegaze giants.
Speaking on the meaning behind the track Josh said:
“Transparent is about attempting to help someone overcome their fear of vulnerability and trying to understand why they're so afraid of it.”

At first writing Hip Hop and Electronic beats, Josh soon became infatuated with the likes of Pixies, Mac DeMarco and Radiohead and began experimenting with a more dark indie sound. Having found himself unable to access studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Josh’s material is recorded and produced entirely within the confines of his iPhone - the ultimate bedroom-pop, corona-centric recording process.
Having all started on a whim as Josh tried to recreate the sounds of his favourite records, Josh soon found that he could create his unique sound, all just by tapping into the tools given to him within Garageband on his phone: “I became obsessed with how artists achieved certain sounds in their music and I would spend hours trying to recreate them almost perfectly within the limiting software I had on my iPhone.”
Now studying music at Chichester College, Josh has cut his teeth as an up and coming musician, playing intimate shows and honing his craft. With a host of new material due from Josh following his signing to Novium Records, he is most certainly a fresh talent to keep an eye on!
