Cardiff based band Blue Amber have returned with the release of their single, ‘University Jesus’ – an experimental indie alt-pop track that takes you on an adventure through multiple movements, with a variety of moods, vibes, and time signatures.
The track, which is inspired by a flatmate who would rarely leave his room, people walking home alone in the early morning, and hero worship of fellow students – all while also calling out random controversy of a university, showcases the band’s distinctive sounds while paying homage to the band’s Beat Generation heroes.
Speaking on the track, “University Jesus is meant to epitomise the joy and elation of having that first taste of freedom, but also the personal changes that happen over that time. In a way, this track is meant to feel like the climax of a film, that final elated punch in the air as the credits begin to roll.” Composed of morphable saxophone, diverse vocals, and engaging keys, the band delivers an all-inclusive sound from post-punk influences to instrumental hip hop to indie folk.
Blue Amber will release their debut album, Rockalnd’s Workshop, on the 20th of May 2022.
