Avid Dancer’s debut LP 1st Bath is out next week on Grand Jury. It’s a beautiful record from start to finish and captures the spellbinding and deeply personal lyrics of Jacob Summers.
Last week Fader premiered a track off 1st Bath, writing, “The opening crunch of Avid Dancer’s ‘Not Far To Go’ reminds me of Neil Young’s ‘Cinnamon Girl.’ This is a good thing, because Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl” is awesome. This song from Jacob Dillan Summers, though, takes different shapes than Young’s straight-ahead crunch classic, heading into dreamy territory thanks to his floating vocals and some very pretty detours.”
Stereogum also picked up the track, noting, “It’s built on seriously sculpted rhythms and blissed out guitar work, but the vocals barely rise above a whisper. Imagine the sensitivity of Sufjan Stevens with a grooving, psychedelic backbone in place of sparse acoustics.”
Avid Dancer have been touring with Delta Spirit for the last few weeks, all remaining dates are listed below.
4/06 – Old Rock House – St. Louis, MO
4/07 – The Lyric Oxford – Oxford, MS
4/08 – Spanish Moon – Baton Rouge, LA
4/11 – Jefferson Theater – Charlottesville, VA
Avid Dancer will also be playing a hometown show, opening for Mile Greene at the Roxy in Los Angeles on April 29.
