THE JAPANESE HOUSE releases her latest single YOU SEEMED SO HAPPY, taken from her critically acclaimed debut album GOOD AT FALLING via Dirty Hit, which comes after a UK tour that took in a sold-out show at London Electric Ballroom.
YOU SEEMED SO HAPPY follows previous singles LILO and MAYBE YOU’RE THE REASON, as well as FOLLOW MY GIRL and WE TALK ALL THE TIME from the album, and is inspired by the crack between image and reality. “That song is about seeming like I was very normal and fine,” explains The Japanese House aka Amber Bain, “but also that feeling that I genuinely believed I was going to die every single day”.
Produced by THE JAPANESE HOUSE, BJ BURTON [Low, Bon Iver] and GEORGE DANIEL from the 1975, GOOD AT FALLING began as demos recorded by Bain on her laptop in her room in London and was finished in studios across Wisconsin, Brussels and Oxford. The result is an album that draws from Bain’s life in a way her work never has before; a more personal, vulnerable and yet confident body of work. “These songs are definitely more direct,” she explains. “The album has a lot more of me in it, so it makes sense.” GOOD AT FALLING is already one of the best-reviewed albums of the year, with acclaim from the likes of XS Noize, The Guardian, NME, Q Magazine, i-D, Clash, DIY, Dork and many more.
