Rick Astley brought a feel-good summer show to Lincoln Castle, performing against one of Lincolnshire’s most picturesque backdrops.
From the moment he and his band took to the stage, the evening had an easy, celebratory atmosphere. Astley remains one of those rare performers who can balance polished musicianship with genuine warmth, never letting the show feel too rehearsed or distant.
Between songs, he kept the mood light, joking with the crowd, chatting to his crew, and making sure everyone was part of the night. At one point, he even checked in with the sign language interpreter to ask if they were having fun too — a small moment, but one that summed up the inclusive, good-natured spirit of the performance.

Musically, Astley and his band were on excellent form. The set moved confidently between solo hits, newer material and crowd-pleasing covers, including Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman” and AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell.” His voice remains a major part of the appeal: rich, controlled and instantly recognisable.
Naturally, the biggest reactions came for the songs that have followed him across generations, including “Together Forever,” “Whenever You Need Somebody” and the inevitable closing anthem “Never Gonna Give You Up.” But the strength of the evening was that it never felt like a nostalgia exercise. Astley’s humour, energy and connection with the audience made the show feel alive in the present.

At Lincoln Castle, Rick Astley delivered exactly what his fans came for: great songs, strong vocals, sharp musicianship and a joyful atmosphere from start to finish.
