ON THE TURNTABLE: Inkswel & Colonel Red – Holders of the Sun Vol 1

Inkswel & Colonel Red - Holders of the Sun Vol 1

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll post my most loved records and recent purchases here for your perusal weekly.

Australian producer, ex-B-Boy and professional beat maker Inkswel has teamed up with London-based Soul singer-songwriter Colonel Red again to create this absolutely gorgeous slice of Nu Soul/Broken Beat/Downbeat/Hip Hop/Funk beauty.

It’s an album that’s overflowing with sublime beats, superb vocals and mesmerising production skills. If you dig Prince, D’Angelo and Sault, then you’re going to absolutely love this.

Side A is for the slow jams, performed to perfection, but Side B takes it up a notch, and the stand-out track ‘Cruel Mistake’ is a full-on head-nodding anthem; that said, they’re all absolute bangers. It would indeed be a ‘cruel mistake’ to ignore this release.
