ON THE TURNTABLE: A-Ha - Hunting High & Low

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Reissue of the debut album from the Norwegian Pop trio. I’ve never made a secret of my love for Pop music, especially 80s Pop, because that was my introduction to it (and let’s face it, it’s the best era for the genre).

As much as I love obscure Funk, Underground Hip Hop and hidden Americana gems, I can get just as much joy from listening to a Pop album with no guilt attached. It’s a big claim, but I’m not sure anyone has ever made a better Pop single than either of A- Ha’s two mega hits, ‘Take On Me’ and ‘The Sun Always Shines On TV’, the feel-good factor is off the scale with both tracks.

Although the two hits are clearly the stand out tracks here, the rest of the album is thoroughly enjoyable; these lads certainly knew how to write a tune—pop perfection.
