What does it take to top the Billboard ‘Emerging Artists’ chart, earn MTV ‘Artist To Watch’ status, and rack up over 20 million streams? There’s no magic formula, but it takes a band that sets itself apart in sound and dares to do things their own way. That’s what MisterWives has done in the lead up to their debut Our Own House and the result is an equally dance-able and sophisticated album.
MisterWives 2014 Reflections EP, which featured the hit single of the same name, was well received and quickly garnered the band a devoted following, Our Own House will please MisterWives diehards and easily gain them new fans.
The album opens with the song Our Own House and what follows is one lush dance track after another. This record is made to be danced to with complicated beats, synths, and horn sections. Lead vocalist Mandy Lee’s voice is all at once sweet, quirky, and unique which gives the slower tracks like Coffins and Queens an ethereal quality. Our Own House might come off as bubblegum on the surface, but give it a good listen and you’ll appreciate the more complicated breakdowns on Imagination Infatuation and Not Your Way.
It’s safe to say that MisterWives have built their House on a strong foundation and they aren’t going anywhere.
