Kasabian came back to Belfast with a bang on Monday night at Customs House Square, after their last-minute cancellation the year before. With rain clouds looming we were all hoping it would not be a repeat of last years torrential rain. The band were late to the stage due to the late running of support act DMA’s. But once the intro to Club Foot started all was blissfully forgotten.
As the band (Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Mathews) took to the stage the crowd began to cheer and were eagerly awaiting frontman Tom Meighan’s arrival. When he finally appeared, it was met with even louder cheers as Club Foot got into full swing. This was followed by Ill Ray (The King) from their current album For Crying Out Loud. However, once the real crowd pleaser Underdog got started when the crowd really started jumping around.
Then the rain really did start to appear, but it did not dampen anyone’s spirits in the slightest. But little did one guy who was watching from his balcony that backed on to Customs House Square, know that he was going to be used for Treat. As Sergio took over from Tom he asked the guy on the balcony to throw him down a random packet of crisps. At the end of the song these were achieved, and Sergio bowed down to the man as he threw him a retro packet of pickled onion Space Invaders. Kasabian then paid tribute to those that came back from last year and apologised about their cancellation and dedicated L.S.F (Lost Souls Forever) to them.
Kasabian rocked the Square from start to finish come rain or shine they ended with well-known hit FIRE from 2009 which I could tell the crowd did not want to end even when we all ended up on the floor to do one last jump around and mosh on the final chorus. Kasabian you are welcome back to Belfast anytime just please don’t bring the curse of the rain with you for the third time.
