One of the most mysterious bands from the 80s with a huge underground following, The Sisters of Mercy, visited Nottingham on Sunday, November 19th, as a part of their Autumn 2023 tour.
Andrew Eldritch, Ben Christo on bass, Kai on guitar and Chris Catalyst as Doktor Avalanche (drum machine) operator brought their signature dark sound and atmosphere. The venue was cramped as the gig was completely sold out. The band was welcomed on stage with a loud cheer.
Bass guitarist Ben Christo and guitarist Kai brought the energy to the crowd, played solos and actively moved on stage. In contrast, Mr Eldritch held the audience’s attention with dark sunglasses, his signature low bass-bariton voice and slow movements. The crowd was filled with The Sisters of Mercy’s long-lasting, passionate fans, and they were dancing and cheering throughout the gig.
The aesthetic, the sound and the band’s overall atmosphere created a magical experience, and it felt like an underground gig sometime in the late 80s, especially during ‘Marian’, ‘Temple of Love’ and ‘This Corrosion’.
