Just over a week ago XS Noize reported the first known details on this release that Dave Gahans eagerly expected second album, collaborating with British duo The Soulsavers was soon to be announced. At that stage the only details that were known were song titles listed in alphabetical order that had been taken from music royalty website repertoire.bmi.com but it was still enough to cause a mini frenzy within the Depeche community and even had The Soulsavers posting on instagram the day after the news broke, ‘Workin Saturdays. Although if I believed everything I read on Social Media I don’t need to be here today and can go home… #speculation’ .
After that half hearted attempt to throw us off the scent and further rumours of a Paris live event announced by French RTL2 radio DJ Zegut, it was finally announced today on davegahan.com that the second album ‘Angels and Ghosts’ will be released on 23rd October 2015 with a six date run of exclusive shows starting in Los Angeles on 19th October and culminating on November 4th in Milan.
The first song from the album was also premiered today,titled ‘All of This and Nothing’ which sets the tone for the new material. This track is a punchier affair than anything from ‘The Light the Dead See’ and carries similar moody guitar melodies, gospel backing and hammond drones, Gahans baritone crooning at the forefront of a track, driven by a thumping drumbeat. Its definitely styled with more energy than the songs from the previous album and appears aptly styled to the live forum which leads to suggest the live dates were arranged to fully showcase the new material.
The 9 track album will be on CD and Vinyl formats as well as the obligatory Digital and is released by Columbia Records. The tracklisting for ‘Angels and Ghosts’ is as follows
